Welfare

Welfare is something that each animal experiences individually. It can be described as functioning and feeling well, physically and mentally. Each individual has their own ideal welfare balance (which will have ups and downs). Good welfare is not only about the absence of severe negative experiences; it is also very much about the presence of positive experiences. Welfare is a multidimensional concept. We can divide welfare needs into 3 categories which are intertwined (strongly connected):
